Norris Center athletic complex at Lake Superior State University - Sault St. Marie, Michigan USA.
Geometrik Studio recently completed a comprehensive architectural design and visualization package for a $5 million privately financed facility expansion and improvement project on the Lake Superior State University campus.

Geometrik Studio was contracted to provide architectural design and 3D visualization services by Larry Westby, member of the LSSU Foundation's board of directors and chair of its Norris Center Project Committee. We were given the opportunity to produce an architectural design that would establish a benchmark by which future projects on the campus will be measured, and to introduce the university to a new model of cost effective design development and rapid delivery of high quality design & visual graphics.

The project design required site planning and design, exterior & interior design, space planning, and extensive lighting design for both interiors and exteriors.

The centerpiece of the design is the "Grand Atrium", which creates a unified entrance for the existing arenas and athletic facilities, and provides improved circulation and functional enhancements.

3D modeling and visualization were integral to the design process, and allowed us to deliver high quality imagery to our client throughout the entire design development cycle. The client was able to actively participate in the evolution of the design by maintaining frequent communication with our studio and by providing feedback to a continual flow of fresh visual graphics.

Imaging technology was key to the development of lighting solutions for all the major portions of the project. Natural daylighting was considered an essential component of the interior design, and artificial lighting was considered critical to establishing an atmosphere of theatrical excitement on the exterior. Daytime and nighttime renderings were prepared early in the design process, and both day & night renderings were updated concurrently as each portion of the project evolved.

The project is scheduled to follow a two year, two part schedule that will allow continuous uninterrupted use of the existing Norris facility during construction, with anticipated completion of the entire project in 2013.
